My Approach To Therapy

PSYCHOLOGICAL DISTRESS

All of us develop core feelings and ways of relating to ourselves and others. This psychological core is formed growing up and, though mostly unconscious, shapes our moods and behaviors; it creates repetitive emotional and behavioral patterns that may feel constraining and induce a pervasive sense of discontent; it may also produce inhibitions and emotional obstacles preventing us from creatively moving forward in our lives. Together, we aim to address these psychic sources of distress in order to make more vital and expansive lives possible.

BEING IN THERAPY

Therapy is a joint exercise; its you and I together. The focus is bringing more clarity, choice, and creativity to your life. All of us at times need help, someone to talk with; often enough it’s a friend or partner or kin. But, sometimes, it’s just too difficult to be fully honest with even our closest intimates. Some of us turn to therapy. I aim to create a safe space making possible an open, intensely personal exploration. At times, I ask questions or may offer my take on what might be going on, but I will always respect your choice to share or not. Therapy is a process; safety needs to be secured and trust built through our joint efforts. Disturbing feelings will surface. These can be occasions to deepen our work, to clarify choices made and their consequences. Therapy can open possibilities to renegotiate daily life in a more deliberate and creative way.
